چکیده

We study the homogeneous Dirichlet problem for some elliptic equations with a first order term b(u,Du) which is quadratic in the gradient variable and singular in the u variable at a positive point. Moreover, the gradient term we consider, changes its sign at the singularity. Dealing with an appropriate concept of solution that gives sense to the equation at the singularity, we prove existence of solutions for every datum belonging to a suitable Lebesgue space. Furthermore, we show that the solution pass through the singularity when data are big enough.

A Sequential Quadratic Programming Algorithm for Nonconvex, Nonsmooth Constrained Optimization

We consider optimization problems with objective and constraint functions that may be nonconvex and nonsmooth. Problems of this type arise in important applications, many having solutions at points of nondifferentiability of the problem functions. We present a line search algorithm for situations when the objective and constraint functions are locally Lipschitz and continuously differentiable o...

Convergence to steady states for radially symmetric solutions to a quasilinear degenerate diffusive Hamilton-Jacobi equation

Convergence to a single steady state is shown for non-negative and radially symmetric solutions to a diffusive Hamilton-Jacobi equation with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions, the diffusion being the p-Laplacian operator, p ≥ 2, and the source term a power of the norm of the gradient of u. As a first step, the radially symmetric and non-increasing stationary solutions are characterized.

Smoothing Quadratic Regularization Methods for Box Constrained Non-lipschitz Optimization in Image Restoration

Abstract. We propose a smoothing quadratic regularization (SQR) method for solving box constrained optimization problems with a non-Lipschitz regularization term that includes the lp norm (0 < p < 1) of the gradient of the underlying image in the l2-lp problem as a special case. At each iteration of the SQR algorithm, a new iterate is generated by solving a strongly convex quadratic problem wit...
